On Thursday, August 22nd, the OMA and the Ministry of Health announced significant changes to OHIP benefits which will have an impact on patients receiving physician house calls.
We fully support that in today’s budget-conscious environment, resources need to be prioritized to patients in our community who are most in need and therefore support the Ministry’s decision to continue funding house calls for those who can’t access services through traditional means.
Where we strongly object, is the Ministry’s decision to force implementation of these changes over the next 4 weeks in a rather rushed schedule. This sudden change would have a significant impact on our ability to provide service to elderly/homebound patients. We are significantly worried about the health impact this will have on this already at-risk population.
We have expressed our concerns to the OMA and have requested that they help facilitate an emergency meeting with the AWG and the Ministry of Health. We are requesting a meeting to discuss a transition plan so that no patient is left behind. #NoPatientLeftBehind
Please help us voice these concerns to the Ministry as we seek for a proper collaborative transition plan.
