Please join us in protecting our neighbourhood !  A proposition is in front of Ontario Land Tribunal to build 19 townhomes at 12600 Bayview Avenue (at the corner of Bayview & Old Colony Rd).

We strongly oppose the proposed development of 19 townhomes (3-storeys) in order to preserve Commercial Zoned Lands & Single family dwellings in the community.

We Kindly ask you to join in this petition to: 1) Stop such developers from building oversized and crowded townhouses in our residential area and 2) Oppose the rezoning request from Neighborhood Commercial (NC) to Multi Residential (RM1) that allows for multi-dwelling homes to be built on single-dwelling properties

Why do we oppose this development?  We believe the building of 19 townhomes on one lot will set a precedence for other builders to follow suit i.e. convert the much needed Commercial sites to Multi Residential. The proposed development will cause a strain to our community and infrastructure & supersede existing bylaws. Our residential area is acutely deprived of a commercial entity and 2706379 Ontario Ltd (owner) wants to deny the residents this right by going to the Land Tribunal to change the zoning.

Why is this happening?  12600 Bayview Avenue  is currently zoned “Neighbourhood Commercial (NC)” under Zoning By-law 85-02. The NC Zone permits Commercial structures such as a strip plaza with much needed services of a doctor, dentist, Convenience store etc. whereas RM1 Zone would allow for townhomes only. 

What are the next steps?  We will be presenting our opposition at the Virtual Meeting of Ontario Land Tribunal on January 31, 2022  where the final decision will be made.
