I have tried to have Liberal MPPs introduce this for the past 4 years.

I've been hit by distracted drivers 4 times since 1995 .. 'Once' would have been 1 time too often .. considering the last 2 assaults were less than 1 month apart

I'm signing this petition because I was hit by a motorist from behind while riding my bicycle. It was out in the country roads so the vehicle was driving at high speeds. I broke my femur and lost a toe. The only consequences the driver received was an $85.00 ticket and loosing some demerit points. Really? You hit someone and they suffer major life long injuries and their fine is $85.00. Running a stop sign is more, not wearing your seat belt fine is more!

We need laws similar to those in the Netherlands to offer rights and protections to cyclists and other vulnerable road users!

I feel this is important, as the tone of the roadways is most often aggressive. Just as in the natural animal world, if there is a more powerful force, it will dominate, and feel that it is dominant. We do not have any counterbalance to the power that we vest in drivers of motor vehicles. I have driven over 800,000 kms in Canada and say this as a driver and a vulnerable road user. Our roadway culture is such that aggression and carelessness towards vulnerable users is commonplace and deemed acceptable. Vulnerable Road Users do not wish to delay drivers, but it is natural instinct to feel such a way when in a position of power.

We need vulnerable road user laws. Presumed guilt of the driver of a vehicle should be automatic as it is in Europe.
