Regulate The Dog Training Industry

This petition had 32 supporters

In Ontario there is currently no regulations covering dog training and anyone can call themselves a professional dog trainer.

Anyone can read a few books and watch a few youtube videos and call themself a dog trainer. Many trainers will tell you they are certified when in fact there is no certification in Ontario and many do not have the qualifications to own a dog nevermind train them

Because most people put their trust in dog trainers, it is absolutely disgusting that the public is offered no protection from incompetent and abusive trainers and this needs to be changed.

Many trainers blatantly misrepresent their professional credentials and associations in order to conceive the public in to believing that they are certified to train their dogs when in fact they dont even understand the basic principles of dog psychology and in many cases make issues worse.

There are currently also no codes of conduct for trainers allowing abusive trainers to get away with using pain and fear to get a dog to comply.

Many of these trainers cannot fix issues but will swear up and down that they can and will just take your money even though they know they cannot fix your issues.

We are calling upon our government to set tight regulations around this industry and to set up a professional code of conduct and competency testing for anyone calling themselves a professional dog trainer. This is needed as many dogs arent getting the actual help they need and becoming a menace to our society.

You wouldn't let just anyone work on your car so why should just anyone be working with our dogs issues?
