Ontario: Declare an Official "Walk to Work" Day

Interested in improving public health without spending a dime? Encourage citizens to walk part or all of their commute to work or school.

Encouraging more walking is part of Ontario’s recent Five Year Climate Change Action Plan 2016-2020.

Getting around on one's own steam benefits all ages. It's good for our health!

We ask our government to declare an official "Walk to Work" Day on the first Friday in May.

This recognition would demonstrate support of the practise of everyday walking. A Walk to Work Day can help draw attention to the ways that daily walking can be part of a healthy lifestyle.

A designated day is a simple idea that's worked in other countries such as Australia and the U.S., where it forms the basis of effective pro-walking campaigns.

With an officially recognized day, it would be easier to promote walking as an active transportation choice.
