Blowing the whistle on sexism in basketball

Sexism exists in the game of basketball. It threatens the integrity of the women's game. The lack of respect by basketball officials for women’s basketball devalues and disrespects the effort, skills, commitment and knowledge of the athletes, coaches and their support systems. It often puts the safety of the athletes at risk simply because officials feel they are above the “girls’ game” and don’t take it seriously.
Female coaches are also a victim of sexism by officials. The difference in the treatment of female coaches by officials, in comparison to their male counterparts, is often glaringly obvious.
Basketball Officials’ organizations are not aware that female athletes (and their families) and female coaches feel they are treated differently based upon their sex/gender. I’m asking you to help with the first step in making a change. Please sign below to help bring this matter to the attention of basketball officials’ organizations in hopes that discussions, education, and change will follow. Feel free to share your experiences as well.
