At the time of writing, there are over 450,000 unique content creators on Onlyfans.com.  Of these, a very high percentage of these accounts are online sex workers (both male and female, although mostly female). Many of these new content creators comprise a lot of people who have been directly affected by the pandemic and as a result have turned to sex work as an "easy money" option.

This is detrimental to our society longterm for many reasons.  The first is the psychological and sociological impact of this type of work upon young women. Many women who enter the pornographic industries end up suffering from depression and drug addiction as a result of their work life.  Although some people can handle this type of work and be ok mentally, a large portion cannot.

Here is a litany of recent articles that go into the reasons why this type of work is unsustainble psychologically.

This in essence could be thought of as a moralist argument, but in reality it is an economic argument for our entire society.  This type of economic work is not sustainable for a myriad of reasons. Many of these girls will do this type of work for a while, but then retain no marketable job skills, and will end up being unemployable, or as low wage workers in other sectors.  This is just the reality of sex work, because beauty unfortunately has a shelf life; so many of these people will end up painting themselves into a corner...  Many of these vulnerable young people will either do it until the money train stops, or do it until they suffer psychological ramifications in the form of unfulfilling relationships, drug addiction, or depression sets in.

I know how hard it is to get people to stop this type of work, as I have clients who have turned to this type of work out of desperation and it is very difficult to convince them to do other types of work even if they are perfectly capable. It is similar to drug dealer money, but without any risk of legal persecution. The problem is, just like drug dealers, they are not really developing many marketable skills while they are in this profession. One could argue that selling yourself is a skill, but just like drugs, it could be said that sex sells itself.

As adults, we should understand that this type of activity when happening on a mass worldwide scale cannot end well for its participants, as such I would implore you to please sign the petition to help ban online sex work, and protect our vulnerable young people; who dont understand what statistically probable pitfalls await them at the end of this line of work. Above all else this is a human rights issue, and we cannot build a society that feeds into the sex industry on this level, especially when human trafficking is such an epidemic as it is.  These related industries can end up feeding one another, as people with no concrete real world job experience are apt to make bad decisions when they become more desperate for money.
