Filipinos are high-volume users of social media.  Estimates this year show that there are 76 million active social media users in the Philippines.  Of this number, 75 million use Facebook; 12 million use Twitter, and 4 million are LinkedIn users.  The Philippines is recognized as one of the top countries for internet users worldwide in terms of time spent on social media; 4 hours on mobile and 5.2 hours on desktop and tablet. With having such massive number of users, affiliate a thousand problems in relation with online scams. It can be seen in the 2018 report of PNP that there are approximately 741 complaints on online scamming, swindling and estafa.

Internet fraud is the use of Internet services or software with Internet access to defraud victims or to otherwise take advantage of them. Internet crime schemes steal millions of dollars each year from victims and continue to plague the Internet through various methods. Recently PNP arrested 419 individuals for allegedly stealing a multi-million dollar fraudulent cheating operation in Clark Freeport Zone in Angeles, Pampanga. Imagining this would make a bigger problem in the nation. Even though there is a Republic Act 10175 entitled “Cybercrime Prevention Act”. Online shops, PNP Anti-Cybercrime group and DTI should have more strict policies to avoid the growing number of people experiencing online scam. Preventing this kind of problem will pave way for a brighter and fair way of living.
