More than enough forests and other natural ecosystems and lands that are home to indigenous peoples have been destroyed, and native plant and animal species exterminated and it is time to protect those that remain.

I have just read a wonderful book, The Reef, by Iain McCalman on the fragility of the Great Barrier Reef when subjected to major interventions, such as pollution. Similarly this area in Africa would be significantly altered in the building of a major dam. Our planet can only stand so much.
