As of now, there are ~120,000 new cases of covid in Ontario each day, with 1000 being in Waterloo region, and this number only continues to rise. Even when there were much fewer cases, our courses and exams were held online. For our KIN 312 course, our professor has expressed her concerns and asked what the policy for the AHS department was and if there were any situations that would allow us an option to go online. Many students are experiencing high anxiety, as they are moving back with their families if not currently living with them. As well, many students work in health care settings, have other in-person exams they need to attend as scheduled, live with roommates who will go home to see their families, etc. The decision to ultimately make this exam in person was made before the spike of this 6th wave occurred, and we are asking that you reconsider having it online. Throughout this term, we had the option to do lessons and content entirely online for those who do not feel safe and/or risk spreading the disease to many others. It does not make sense for a class of this capacity to be forced to now go back to in-person, when we have remained online until now. Contracting covid would also greatly impact end of term plans for many students, which could involve moving (as they would have to isolate before changing living locations), vacations, etc. According to the Waterloo exam schedule, many courses have been given permission to hold online exams. This includes the KIN 404 exam, which was originally going to be in-person and has now switched to online. It does not seem fair to allow some courses to switch, and not others, especially due to our large class size for KIN 312. We ask that you listen to our concerns and place priority on our safety, and kindly consider moving this exam online. Thank you for your time.
