Why this petition matters

If you are on the fence, indifferent, or against this, let me attempt to change your mind.

First, a city’s reputation is based on its downtown. Every city our size has a 53rd street, but what outsiders look for in judging an area is the strength of a city’s core. And when people want to visit here, it’s a good thing. It fills hotels, shops, and (yes) restaurants.  A vibrant downtown also attracts people to plant roots here. That means population growth. Did you know that downtown Davenport is the fastest growing neighborhood in the Quad Cities?

That is because our downtown has taken massive strides over the last few years, and changing these streets into two ways will give us the momentum we need to get to the next level. Have you noticed there isn't a lot happening on 4th Street?

It’s because it’s a one way. Walking/parking/existing with three lanes of cars whizzing behind you isn't really conducive to a good time.

One way streets were designed to pass people through an area quickly. TWO WAY STREETS MAKE A NEIGHBORHOOD. They make them walkable and bikeable. They also make the area around it safer and cut down on traffic accidents.

Here’s a wild idea: Don’t make the thing that people judge our city on a pass through. Make it a neighborhood.
