Dear shark gifters,

An Environmentalist, Gary Larson stated, “You always hear a headline like this, ‘Man killed by a shark’ you never hear it from the other perspective, ‘Man swims in shark infested waters, forgets he’s shark food.’ Sharks are put into souvenirs, used for waterproofing ships and even included in soup. Do you think this is the right thing to do? We have slaughtered them in many ways for our WANTS not NEEDS. In this second, sharks are dying. I stand in the position that sharks should be protected from humans.

To begin with, sharks play a BIG role in the ocean. Sharks are the animals on top of the food chain, the APEX predator. They are not preyed UPON, but they are preyed ON. Sharks maintain food webs. They cycle nutrients and even reduce disease. Some people even imagine sharks going extinct. But do they know how scary it can be? If sharks go extinct,it will have a dangerous impact on coral reefs.. Small predators prey on herbivorous animals. Herbivorous animals will decrease soon, then the algae will take over the coral reefs. 

We have been so busy thinking about sharks that we forgot to look back on ourselves. We have slaughtered them for WANTS not NEEDS. We used sharks for soup. We cut off all their fins and killed sharks because we WANTED shark soup. To talk a little bit about this, shark fin soup got  banned in June 2016 due to the world's shark population and because of the harm. It is not only this. When people even make souvenirs out of them.  According to change.org, they said that in Hawaii it was branded as a tradition. Is this really necessary? Is it really important for us? Please think back. Humans kill more sharks than they do. 

In fact, shark attacks are very low. Some people disagree, saying that shark attacks are getting higher than before. I challenge this.  I don’t think that shark attacks are increasing. Besides that, shark attacks are very rare. According to research, a person's chance of getting attacked by a shark is 1 in 11.5 million. In addition, someone mentioned that, “You're more likely to be killed by a cow than a shark.” In movies such as ‘Jaws’ sharks are mentioned as deadly ferocious creatures roaming the planet. This could be true. But actually, cows kill 22  people a year. But other than that, sharks kill about 6 - 8 humans. It doesn’t mean that sharks are deadly just because of how they expressed them in movies. They are actually harmless. 

There is a need to start caring about sharks. We knew that they were tortured and slaughtered but we kept silent. But now, we need to make a move. Sharks are disappearing. We can stop this, We can help, and We can change the world. Sharks are killed this very second. It is estimated that 2040 sharks will be completely extinct. Some people kill sharks because they want to earn money, But I will not tolerate animal cruelty. This kind of behavior should not be slipped under a rug and  I want to change this before darkness overlaps us. Be an advocate for a change.
