Female Genital Mutilation or FGM must end because it leads to needless suffering and human rights abuses of adolescent and pre-adolescent girls.
It has been proven that there are no health benefits of this procedure.
It only cause ill health and suffering.
Young Girls are too young to decide. It is forced onto them because their parents/guardians do not understand the harm it is causing them.
It causes severe pain, often causes psychological trauma, difficulty in future physical relations and difficulty in future child birth.
The United Nations Organizations that work in health have condemned this procedure over and over again in global declarations that support the health of women. ( ICPD, Cairo 1994, Beijing fourth world conference of women 1995, and later ones)
The African Union wants the UN General Assembly to ban FGM in its upcoming 66th session.
But still this continues in many countries and regions of the world.
But now it must stop.
Men have to come forward and sign this ground breaking accord.
