I would like to see an application that one could install on a smart phone that would allow caregivers a convenient option to dose insulin for a loved one (or patient) from a considerable distance. Currently, insulin pumps allow the user to dose insulin accordingly, but for children, adults or those that are unable to manage diabetes on their own ( which would be ideal for the very young, elderly, or unable) an app that is tied to a smart phone device of a caregiver and the person's pump device would be useful and cost effective. It could also be a stage of management for patients or users that are not ready to embrace the artificial pancreas which could still be of interest to the companies that are branching out into that technology. There is a need for alternative methods (such as this) of insulin management especially in a time of emergency, natural disasters and economic crisis's, but also on a daily basis for parents that have a child with Type 1 Diabetes. It would give those parents the freedom of giving an insulin dose in the middle of the night during a hyperglycemic episode, or during time when a child is staying with a friend or relative that may be uncomfortable managing insulin dosing on their own. Please consider this request.
