If the OHS community wants to respect everyone’s freedom then OHS students need to start treating Covid-19 as a terrible disease. The students of Olympia High School need to start wearing their masks effectively and not only to be convenient to themselves. Wearing your mask is crucial to people’s health because if you don’t wear it correctly, regardless of your vaccination status you can still catch the disease and pass it on to other people. The alteration I have in mind can revolutionize the OHS community. This transition will enforce the mask ordinance and you will be amazed by the results of our community. If you get fined for wearing your mask with your nose or mouth revealed every single time a staff member sees you, would you keep continuing in the same manner? Or will you adapt to the new enforcement? The key solution to this problem is to fine people for not wearing their masks correctly on the school grounds of Olympia High School. This can logically be done by using our school ID cards. Olympia High School can easily do this if they have enough support for it.

One major reason why this issue is important is that there is a huge rise in Coronavirus cases and proper mask-wearing has a strong correlation with the rise. We must wear our masks to obliviate the transmission of the coronavirus, we must wear our masks to subjugate the virus transmission in our OHS community, we must wear our masks to reduce the risks involved with not wearing our masks. Wearing our masks is like wearing a seat belt, without our seat belts we humans won't be able to survive the tiniest crash in a car. Being in a car crash is just like being in contact with Covid-19. You never know when and where both things will happen. To a degree, mask enforcement is really important nowadays as the Federal Government and the Center for Disease Control have recommended wearing your mask to cover your mouth and nose. If I come up to you and tell you to wear your mask properly, will you do it? No, no you won’t. I myself have told many people to wear their masks properly but, their response was. “I am vaccinated, so I don’t really have to wear my mask.” Are these people really that stupid?
Another major reason why this issue is important is that the masks that you wear reduce the spread of respiratory droplets into the air when a person coughs, sneezes, or talks. According to the CDC, when you wear your mask properly the mask reduces the inhalation of these droplets that other people let out from their respiratory systems. This is why it helps both of the wearers. Wearing a mask isn’t a restriction of our freedom. It is a ticket to our freedom. It helps us to regain freedom by reducing virus transmission in any community and making every single interaction safer. Do you really want to wake up to the freedom we had two years ago? Do you really want that mask off of your face after this awful pandemic? Wearing your mask is just like wearing your Jacket in the cold. In this case, the cold is the Covid. To protect yourself from the cold, do you wear a jacket, a sweatshirt, or a hoodie? If you don't, you definitely don't belong here in the Pacific Northwest. Just like that, do you wear a mask properly to protect yourself from Covid-19? If you don't wear your mask properly, you definitely don't belong in the social environment of Earth. By not wearing your mask, you are harming others, you are putting others at risk, you are sacrificing everyone's freedom. Now, is that what you want? After all, Dubai is charging every single person they see not wearing their mask properly, a whopping 850 US Dollars. Why do you think Dubai is doing that? They are doing that because they have enough people caring about their community. Enough people to care about the community can change the community itself to care about everyone.
This is why we must make a petition on Change.org and let the staff hear our voices. We must make a petition on charging students $1 for not wearing their masks properly each time a staff sees them without a mask. Will students keep continuing in the same manner? Or will they change? We must transform our community, we must take action to bring change to our community. Let's sign this petition and share it with everyone we know at OHS. Let's induce this transformation in our community and make this a reality. Remember that our reality is in our hands, not in the hands of others. Our hands have the power to make this a reality. After all, the Coronavirus is a terrible disease. We Olympia High School students need to start wearing our masks effectively and not only to be convenient to ourselves. We must look towards the future and let's revolutionize our OHS community and make a change!
