Daz Eastwood started this petition to Oliver Dowden MP and

As the national lockdown restrictions were lifted on December 2nd, it was announced that limited spectator numbers may return to sports events/football matches.

Before this spectators were allowed to non 'elite' football games, mostly in the National league system (step 3 and below).

Many of these clubs survive solely on matchday revenue and are run by unpaid volunteers from the communities they serve, many also put a lot of time, effort and money to make their grounds 'Covid secure' allowing supporters to return from August 22nd, this was confirmed and clarified by the DCMS and was a huge relief to many clubs who had struggled with no income.

These grounds and clubs were again making enough money to survive, then we had the 2nd national lockdown meaning once again clubs were unable to welcome supporters and again lose out financially.

The announcement that the national lockdown would end brought hope that once again clubs could re-open their grounds to allow spectators to attend but it was announced that with the introduction of the tier system in England, clubs who found themselves in tier 3 were NOT allowed to have fans attend, this is surely seen as discriminating against and causing even more hardship to already struggling community clubs based on nothing more than geographical placement, this is wholly unfair on those clubs affected who have done everything required previously at their own cost and effort to accomodate spectators safely and securely.

This decision means that a lot of the leagues in the National league system have had to postpone their leagues due to a high number of clubs not being able to continue playing behind closed doors, these same clubs were allowed to have fans in before and nothing has changed, the grounds are still Covid secure and this decision is wholly unfair on the tier 3 clubs who could easily accomodate a low number of spectators safely, as they were doing previously.

It begs the questions of if these small, mainly open air football grounds are considered not safe then why are INDOOR shopping centres etc in the same areas/tiers with thousands of people in them, evidently and clearly not social distancing etc, considered to be so when in effect it would be the same people the clubs would be targeting, why is the non league football fans' pastime choice deemed to be more dangerous than their shopping enjoying neighbour?

We are asking you to reconsider your decision and lift spectator restrictions at ALL clubs in ALL tiers to allow them to continue to operate and earn much needed match day revenue, they were safe before and they are still safe now, the only thing that has changed is the DCMS and the Government's decision to stop them operating due to the location they find themselves in.

Thank You
