Proposed Observation Policy- Revise to include Parent Input

The SEPAG met to review and discuss the proposed Policy: 9241.Requests for Classroom Observations. The policy only focuses on children receiving special education services. The way the policy is written now could potentially interfere with IEP timelines. There are no guidelines established as to how decisions are made regarding parent observations. The policy limits observations to only the classroom, and doesn't allow for parents to observe across other settings including related services, gym or recess. While the SEPAG supports the need to create a policy, we have serious concerns about the purpose and intention of the proposed policy. A parent’s right to observe their child is supported by federal law, for general education and special education children alike. What we are asking the Board is to carefully review the SEPAG's outline of concerns with proposed solutions and take them into consideration when making a decision.
