Recently we visited an old-age home as a part of reaching-out programme from our school, St. Mary's English Medium school, Udupi, Karnataka. The condition in the old-age home was disheartening. Those people living there at the last years of their life have given up hopes and they dont have enough support for their basic needs. Our reaching-out programme gave an opportunity for our students to understand the life of these people who are fighting for even 3 meals per day. Let's not forget that they will have medical needs as well at this age. We are just talking about 1 old-age home, but there are several such old-age homes across the country which need immediate attention. This old-age home which we visited on the 2nd of October as a mark of celebration of Mahatma Gandhiji's 150th birth anniversary, is "Omega old-age home" near Udupi. Hopefully, some positive steps will be taken by the government and the citizens of the country in the betterment of such old-age homes across the country. All of us must come together hand-in-hand to work towards making such places a comfortable and joyful home to live for the old-aged people to spend their last few years of their fruitful life. If only we could provide them with basic needs and medical facilities, we would make their second innings a beautiful victory...
