Why this petition matters

Started by David Brox II

In this petition, we are trying to express with great detail the desire to have black history month talked about in Olathe Public Schools. Two days into February, and most of the general student body can say that not one of their teachers has made a single reference to black history month or anything “Black History related” other than Martin Luther King and etc.

Also, another concern in schools is the learning of useless history such as the Renaissance time period and useless irrelevant facts about Napoleon instead of things relevant to our time period such as world issues and human rights equality. We also believe that Black History Studies should be worth a full credit, as they are more “relevant history” and can be the guide in educating many people. Also, modern world history which isn’t modern at all, focuses on the glorification of the completely morally wrong people of the time period. Sign to help us make Black History talked about, the class worth more credits, and to make Black History month something to be mandatorily spoken about.
