Seniority to Priority (ON Class of 2018)

To Whom It May Concern:
This petition is being presented to address the fact that the Eagle Extra system has revoked part of the Class of 2018’s privileges that supposedly come with seniority. Many members of the Class of 2018 have voiced concern about the order of parking pass registration for the 2017-18 school year. With all due respect, why allow juniors with Eagle Extras their choice of parking before seniors who have worked equally as hard, if not harder for the past 3 years of their high school career?
Our main concern is that the Eagle Extra requirements were not made clear, making students who would otherwise deserve them ineligible. Yes, there was a PowerPoint presentation to outline the system but it did not reach a fraction of the student body. With the system also being fairly new and introduced in the middle of the year, the guidelines were not clear to many. For example, the attendance requirement of no more than 28 hours of school missed confused some students. Over what period of time? What absences were counted? Were sick/injured days, AP testing, and other academic field trips that were either unpreventable or benefitting academic development included?
In conclusion, we ask that the parking pass registration order as well as the Eagle Extra system be readdressed and clarified for the student body and parents in order to return seniority to priority as a tradition Olathe North has upheld for many years. Those who have signed this document wholeheartedly agree.
