Brianda Meals started this petition to Oklahoma Department of Corrections

COVID-19 has impacted the world in several different ways and individuals and organizations have united in a multitude of ways to try and lessen the burden of this pandemic. One of several different organizations that has been consistently overlooked is the Department of Corrections, while many do not view inmates in the same light they are still vital to so many individuals outside of the walls that house them.

Due to the current rules and regulations throughout our nation inmates in certain states have been going without any visitation with loved ones in the outside world. It has already been proven that having these connections and opportunities help in aiding depression and high amounts of stress – not only for the inmates but also for the families of these individuals.

This petition is a cry out to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections on behalf of the families and the inmates currently serving time behind the walls, this petition is seeking the ability for inmates to have the opportunity to have video calls to replace the current no visitation rules in place. Allowing video calls for inmates will provide a sense of relief to them and families. Yes, phone calls are still an option but there is no replacement of being able to see a familiar face-it is a different type of peace.

We are asking the State of Oklahoma Department of Corrections to allow video calls for inmates during this unprecedent time.
