My name is Ashlyn Hutchinson, 18 year's old and a Braggs public school student for 12 years. I'd like start up a petition against Braggs public school for not recognizing and celebrating the African community. For many years I have come to notice that my school does not recognize Martin Luther King jr. Day nor do we celebrate Black History Month. And it breaks my heart that I know so little black literature because it is so little taught at my school. I don't even know "I Have a Dream" speech because it isn't taught. I have felt deeply passionate for this and I feel like I should take a stand since no one else is taking one. The African-American Community has been silenced at my school for way too long. The fact that we're not recognizing this, is disrespectful. I feel that my school has failed to recognize dr. King and the respect that he is well-earned and deserved. and the fact that we're not learning black literature at my school is downright wrong. Dr King made a huge impact on society and I feel that it should be celebrated not silenced. I've sat back at my school and watch this for too long and if no one's going to be the voice at my school for for African Americans then I will. It's time Braggs School to make a change with the rest of the world and celebrate Martin Luther King Day and Black History Month. Share this petition and help make a change!
