Stop the Non-essential Helicopter Traffic in Okaloosa County

Stop the Non-essential Helicopter Traffic in Okaloosa County
BACKGROUND
Timberview Helicopter Tours has been operating in Destin for several years. This company was operating out of the Destin Executive Airport under a contract with the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) signed in 2017. However, that contract was terminated for several reported violations.
Timberview has moved it's operations to a private helipad at 34859 Emerald Coast Pkwy, Destin, FL 32541, adjacent to US Highway 98. This site was granted zoning non-conforming use status by the County several years ago and permitted by Florida DOT.
Timberview operates both Robinson R44 and R66 helicopters both of which have terrible fatal crash records. According to a newspaper article, the owner of Robinson Helicopters recommends that everyone that flies in an R44, should wear a full fire suit because of the dangers of fire!
Many businesses, HOAs and even our Henderson State Park are deluged with safety and noise complaints and residents are suffering and angry and do not have confidence that the BCC actions will provide adequate relief.
PATH FORWARD
We are part of a growing group of residents who are stepping up to organize, develop and carry out meaningful actions, and eventually raise funds to eliminate this assault on our communities.
