Why this petition matters

Started by Soph Jenkins

please sign this petition if you wish to object the the approved decision of turning 63 commercial street risca np11 6aw from a family home into a HMO. ( the same company own the HMO in brookland road FYI ). - the police of risca has also put their objections across which were ignored in todays voting.

the decision was approved today at the Caerphilly council offices. The email that I sent to the council weeks ago which was ignored my personal reasonings for objecting.

I am writing as a member of the community and home owner of number 6? (Number blanked for confidential reasons ) commercial street risca close to where the HMO housing has been approved.

I would like to express my deep concern of the HMO due to the turnover of people (expected males) I am a 26 year old women with a 8 month only baby boy. My partner and I bought number 6? commercial street last year. We spent our life savings on the house deposit which we thought was situated on a safe street of risca in hopes we could start a family. Since then the house has been under construction as we came to learn I was already pregnant when we received the keys.

We have spent almost all of our money renovating this property. Whilst I understand that people need to be housed and that people need to be given a chance however. This is mine and my families chance. We were first time buyers who chose to purchase this house in risca and now it fees as though all of our efforts and money has been wasted.  We will never be able to get to know our neighbors as there will be a turnover of people. Whilst I understand they may not be all undesirables I can say that living so close to a HMO already there is a high police presence and constant complaints from neighbors, there are people drinking alcohol from morning to night on the front door step, plenty of antisocial behavior and just a bad name for our risca community. I know your unable to confirm if undesirables are going to be housed there but you can confirm that they won’t be either and this is where our concern stems from. We have worked for the past 8 years to be able to save and purchase that house.

I am frightened as I am a young women with such a young baby as my partner works Monday to Friday night shifts every week. I would not feel safe in the house alone with my baby. I would not feel safe having my child play in the garden. I would not feel safe in my own home.

Whilst I understand that this comes across negatively I hope that you take all of my concerns into play when you are coming to a definite decision. I want my child to grow up in risca but it has to be in a safe environment.

with this being approved today we may as well have taken all of our hard earned money to the meeting today and set it on fire and watched it burn to nothing, as this is what will happen to our home. This will significantly reduce the value of our home if we ever were to sell and selling seems our only option at the moment.. but who would buy it?! No one!
