Across our nation, extremists issue blanket condemnations of the police and call for abolishing entire departments. This rhetoric is dangerous to everyone’s public safety.

The murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis was a heinous crime, and the perpetrators should be brought to swift justice. Further, we condemn the actions of any officer in any jurisdiction which do not follow the law and uphold the high calling of their departments.

In 2004, the Cleveland Police Department was defunded and had its budget slashed by 31%. Hundreds of police officers were laid off. Since that time, response times to calls have gotten longer.  Aggravated Robberies are higher. Property crimes are higher. Drug sales and use have gone up. Homicides are up 55% from 2019. Cleveland is in the top 100 cities in the United States for homicide rates.

The story that all cops are bad and corrupt is simply is not true. There is roughly 375,000,000 contacts made by police in the United States yearly. Of that number, a total of 28 unarmed people were killed by police in 2019. Boiled down, that means that 0.000007% of police interactions end in somebody dying who was unarmed. Yet our nation has ostracized the over 685,000 police officers in the United States.

We believe that the majority of officers are good and honest men and women who put their live son the line to defend us.

We do not agree with defunding our police.

We believe that our police departments should receive more funding to be used to train our police officers even further to handle situations thrown their way.

We believe that the good men and women who protect us need our support.
