I drive to Columbus five days a week for work, Monday through Friday, and I take interstate 71 southbound on the way to work and 71 northbound on the way home. I leave my house at 4:50am and drive home varies each day. The way that people drive blows my mind because it is unsafe for everyone including themselves. There are drivers who stay in the left lane and make other vehicles pass them on their right or the middle lane and that is a common blind spot for a lot of drivers, especially semi drivers. The slow drivers in the left lane cause vehicles to back up and slow everyone down and that just makes the entire situation so much worse. It has been proven that drivers who stay in the left lane are a major cause of accidents and it can be, slowly but surely, fixed.

I have always been taught that the left lane is the passing lane and the right lane is for cruising speed or slower drivers. Now if there are three lanes then the middle lane is the cruising/slow lane and the right lane is for semis and vehicles with trailers. The way that I have been taught has not been a normal teaching for everyone and it should be a lesson taught or a law put into place to make the roads safer for everyone.

I recently visited Germany and had the opportunity to drive on the Autobahn. The experience was delightful, easy, and they don’t even have speed limits! They use this same method and everyone follows it. If this change could take place then I think everyone would benefit from this. This would allow for the left lane to be cleared for cops or emergency vehicles, everyone would have an understanding of how passing a vehicle safely works, and it would make the roads safer for everyone.
