Samuel Adams started this petition to Ohio State House and

Currently 38 of the 50 States do not charge sales tax on precious metal sales. This includes gold, silver, platinum, and palladium coins, rounds, bars, and other bullion/numismatic products. Ohio is currently one of the twelve states that does charge sales tax on precious metal sales. The goal of this petition is to bring Ohio in line with the overwhelming majority of the country of not placing undue burden on its citizens who wish to invest in their future and to remove sales tax from the sales of precious metals and numismatics in the state of Ohio.

The Ohio State Legislature's main function is to look out for the best interest of its citizens. Placing a tax on precious metals inhibits the investments of its citizens and puts them at a disadvantage to citizens of other states. At a time when it appears that inflation may be on the rise, the investment in precious metals is a strong way to protect one's wealth and hedge against the potential impact of a burdened fiat currency. Ohio is hampering its citizens ability to investment in precious metals and limiting the potential protection and gains that precious metals can provide one's portfolio of investments.

We ask the the Ohio State Legislature take up a bill to repeal the collection of sales tax on all precious metal and numismatic sales. This action will display the legislature's will to put the people of the state first, allow them the freedom to invest more freely in their future, and put Ohio on the same playing field as almost 80% of the country.
