Catherine Morrison started this petition to Ohio Legislature

Presently under Ohio law bodies are owned by family members. Under Ohio Revised Code 210.81 and 2108.75 the right of disposition goes to the surviving spouse, child, then both parents, then grandparents. In my case, I had to find my ex-husband when our 30 year old daughter died, to be able to cremate her, even though he had not seen her in 10 years. I did not know where he was, yet it was my responsibility to find him. Not fair. In the past 4 years, the legislature has ignored my attempts to fix this stupid law because the Ohio Funeral Directors Association wants us to find missing family members during the worst time of our lives. We need to tell the Ohio Legislature it is past time to fix this stupid Ohio law. We should only be grieving the loss of our loved one's, not looking for people who walk away. By signing this petition you are telling the Ohio Legislature we don't own bodies and it's time to fix this stupid law.
