Why this petition matters

In ohio right now there are no laws prohibiting or classifying what an officer should do during a high speed chase. There are several states that follow guide lines on high speed chases. While some states have no chase laws, other states like Atlanta have parameters to be followed that when a chase reaches a certain speed it is called off. We have see countless times in ohio where police chases have ended in fatality or damage to the city or someone's personal property. Just last year there was a 15 year old girl that was killed as an innocent bystander due to a police chase. An elderly couple were cited by the city due to damage to their porch which was a result of a police chase and countless other occurrences have been documented. On December 4, 2021 my son Kevin Harris and another passenger were killed in a police chase in which the chase reached speeds of 105mph. The car hit a wall causing it to burst into flames. While the viticms weren't right for running and I'm not saying anyone in a police chase is, there should be rules so that people aren't injured. At what speed does a vehicle need to get to for the chase to be called off?  Too many people ranging in all different ages have died due to police chases. Kids have died due to the negligence of the ones that's supposed to protect us and they are not being held accountable. Mother's like myself that have lost and mother's who will lose their children are living with pain of never being able to hold, or see there child again, whether they are the victim of the car chase, the innocent bystander or, the passenger who wants get out. We are missing out on precious moments they would have had, graduations from school, proms, college, grandchildren, and marriage. This is all taken away from us and no one has been charged or held liable. The police go home happily to their families after the tragedy as just another day in the field. They have made sly and insensitve remarks on body cam that we have to heard. Never taking into consideration that the shoe could be on the other foot. Police have released personal information to the news and press before the families have properly been notified. What is the motive of chasing anyone at high speeds? Knowing that their life and the lives of others are in danger. This can be considered careless and reckless at it's best. This petiton is a call to action for change to  policy and procedures followed by police during a high speed chase. Something has to be done, there has been too much damage and loss due to these chases. We are looking to get this petition signed to reach the govenor. All signatures help.
