Make mental health a compulsory subject from primary school

Mental health as we all know is a huge and growing epidemic in the UK.Anxiety, depression, self harm, eating disorders and suicide are overwhelming the NHS ,support and education services. Resources are stretched to the limit and under-resourced especially for younger people. Our children should at least be given some tools to help them in life .Some schools of course already offer this but let it become the norm of education and be extended. Educators can maybe be allowed to put less emphasis on academic performance and more emphasis on mental well being and use the classroom as a safe place to discuss such issues and to try and find solutions and strategies.I have worked in education for over 25 years and I have noticed the decline in mental health so I feel strongly we need to start helping our children from a young age . Strategies such as meditation, mindfulness, yoga are proven to help with mental health and can easily be included as a daily school activity. Please sign this petition to make mental health well being as a major part of our national curriculum from when children start school to when they leave school. If we start teaching them young they may at least have brighter futures.
