Gender Equality In Sports, Specifically High School Cross Country Running
This petition had 881 supporters
In high school cross country running races in Ontario (and most of Canada) in all age divisions girls run 2000m less than boys.
There is no physiologic reason for this gender distance discrepancy. This endorses an overtly sexist system.
In U.S. jurisdictions where they have equalized distances (a majority of states), female participation has NOT declined despite concerns that this would happen.
In many jurisdictions female participation is greater than male participation yet no one suggests boys should run less!
Please join our campaign to apply pressure to OFSAA to encourage them to lead on this issue and listen to our voices!
We ask OFSAA to equalize distances for boys and girls in cross country running in Ontario.
OFSAA, please do not drag your feet. Do not make excuses. Do not allow politics to be a barrier. Do not tell us that change takes time. Make the change. Make it now.
Because girls can run....
