People with textured hair should be able to walk into a salon with the same expectation as me: that a competent stylist will be able treat their hair appropriately. Universal recognition at training and salon level would be a big, and stunningly overdue, step towards destigmatising textured hair with all the tired pejoratives people have had to put up with from school onwards.

It's insane that all hair types are not covered in hairdressing technique and exams

This is ridiculous! How far the hands of racism can reach!

I had always wanted to learn how to do Afro hair during my apprenticeship but it was not a option. You could only learn braiding and plaiting on European hair. We were not given the option to learn all aspects of Afro hair. I feel ashamed and disgusted that this has not been included. Hairdressers should be taught all types of hair. I would love to learn the techniques of Afro hair both men and women. This needs to change. Please sign the petition!!

Because I’m paying £3500 for a course that doesn’t even include all hair types and because I am a black hairdresser who currently is offering services to all hair types and there should be more hairdressers that offer the same but it is impossible to do so
