CANCELLATION OF PROPERTY TAX IMPOSED ON RESIDENTS OF NODES OF PANVEL MUNICIPAL CORPO
- Panvel Municipal Corporation was formed in Oct 2016 and The Municipal Corporation includes 29 revenue villages of Panvel taluka including CIDCO colonies of Taloja, Kharghar, Kalamboli, Kamothe New Panvel covering area of 110 SQ KMs.
The CIDCO Nodes of Taloja Kharghar Kalamboli Kamothe and New Panvel have been imposed double tax by CIDCO as well as Panvel Municipal Corporation. All the facilities like water supply, roads maintainance and hygiene and sanitation is looked after by CIDCO for which residents are paying taxes.
Recently Panvel municipal corporation has sent property and other services tax demand to residents from 2016 onwards. This tax is akin to Jiziya tax of Aurangzeb.Double taxation is illegal and a way of looting the hard working middle class residents of the area who have already lost livelihoods due to COVID-19 Pandemic.
It is urged to abolish the illegal property tax imposed by Panvel Municipal Corporation till 2021-2022 or till the time the services are not taken over by Panvel Municipal Corporation whichever is later.
Similar agitations are already under progress by residents welfare associations of various nodes.
