First and foremost, Chick-Fil-A doesn't discriminate and has employees that will lose their jobs. Those employees earn an honest wage, raises and possibly benefits. Closing this Chick-Fil-A will tell these people that it's too bad they earned raises and benefits, good luck replacing them.
Removing Chick-Fil-A from EIU campus is not representative of a diverse University. On the contrary, if any business or proprietor is denied a contract based on it's religious foundations, customers are deprived of their right to patronize said establishment and to their own beliefs. Whether I do or don't believe in gay marriage and want to support Chick-Fil-A for their stance, my right to eat there shouldn't be taken away just because I'm not a student of EIU or because my money is spent in a way others don't like. I am a resident of Coles County and pay taxes to the school as well as to the city and county in which EIU is located. Deny me my Chick-Fil-A and you are denying me my right to choose!
Currently, there are two chicken eateries in Charleston Illinois, one on campus and one off campus. If Chick-Fil-A is forced off campus, Charleston will most likely not allow the establishment to reopen in the community for the simple reason that the University didn't want it, so neither should the people. As much as I like KFC, their chicken is too greasy for me to eat. KFC and Chick-Fil-A are similarly priced and I prefer Chick-Fil-A because it doesn't disagree with my body. If Chick-Fil-A is forced to move, my business in Charleston will be as well. If people cannot get their choice of food in Charleston, they will begin to do business in more diverse cities, like Mattoon, or out of county in Champaign or even out of state in Terre Haute. Because I do not like any group to tell me where I should or shouldn't do my business, I will remove all of my business from Charleston, in this event, as well.
I would like to see any and all petitions asking for the removal of Chick-Fil-A to be ignored or at least negated by this petition. If you believe that every business in our country has the right to their own beliefs and to spend their money as they wish, please sign this petition. If you believe that your rights are being taken away, "for your best interests", please sign this petition. When we allow a group of people to close a business because of their religious beliefs or statements made, we are allowing our own rights to be trampled on. Our forefathers fought for our rights and it is up to us to uphold and defend them. Please sign this petition if you believe you have the right to choose for yourself where you want to eat and spend your money.
