Ask former President Obama and Rep. John Lewis to hold a peace rally in Charlottesville.

On August 12, 2017 White Supremacists gathered for a "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, VA. As Nazis, KKK members, and racists marched with swastikas and made Hitler salutes, a courageous group of Americans stood up to peacefully oppose them. The White Supremacists turned on the counter protesters, attacking them. Many were left bloodied. And we are all aware of the price Heather Heyer paid for her bravery.
This tragedy has been made worse, and the process to begin healing has been blocked, by the refusal of President Donald Trump to decry what all good Americans see as a threat to our national unity.
The American people are crying out in pain. Having left office less than a year ago, many of us still look to President Barack Obama for steady, pragmatic leadership. We crave his healing words, and soothing presence.
It goes against tradition for a former President to return to the national stage to lead us in a time of sorrow. But these are times unlike any other, and the current occupant of the White House has shown he is not only incapable, but also unwilling, to lead.
By signing this petition, you are NOT declaring Barack Obama to have any Constitutional Authority. We all acknowledge that he is a former United States President. Signing this petition is merely a request that a private and well-respected citizen like Barack Obama find it in his heart, and in his time, to give us one more afternoon of service - and help heal a broken, divided, and grieving nation.
