Why this petition matters

Brown University needs more screenwriting classes. As one of the creative epicenters of the academic film world, Brown shapes alumni into writers, directors, and producers who tell their stories through movies and television. Currently, Brown is offering no Intro to Screenwriting courses for Fall 2022 and only one section of seventeen students for Spring 2023.

Given the extremely limited capacity of Brown's screenwriting classes, getting a spot is incredibly competitive and most students who want to learn to screenwrite are currently unable. This will ultimately hurt Brown's ability to produce innovative screenwriters and filmmakers, limiting such a fantastic form of art to a select few.

For a school that boasts its successful alumni in the entertainment industry to prospective students and donors alike, it's time to back it up with classes that will support the film community at Brown. Students of Brown University are requesting that the administration hire more professors to teach Intro to Screenwriting and other higher-level classes so more students can learn screenwriting. Please sign this petition if you agree and want to increase the number of screenwriting classes available at Brown University.
