OSPREYS started this petition to Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen and

Ocean Springs is known for our historic downtown and charm, but as the town welcomes more families and visitors we need to keep them safe.

Ocean Springs' population has doubled in the last 50 years and we have 2.5 times more cars on our roads.  OSPREYS (Ocean Springs Pedestrian and Residents for Exercise and Youth Safety) is committed to working with the city to find no/low cost solutions to improve pedestrians, cyclists and golf carts safety.

Our first goal is for the city to re-examine speed limits.  The city planning department has created a speed limit map, which will be provided to the board of aldermen, that will illustrate erroneously high speed limits on residential streets.  We would like your support to show the Board of Aldermen that their constituents believe no residential streets should have speed limits over 25mph.

Studies have shown that a pedestrian hit by a car going 30mph has a 47% mortality rate.  Reducing speed limits on residential streets (especially those without sidewalks) can reduce mortality rates by 30%!

OSPREYS has met with many alderman and the mayor's office and is committed to working with the city, please show your support by signing the petition to make OS streets safer!
