Petition Closed

I am Starting this "Occupy My Street" petition today because I am outraged at the cost of having a car in this city (San Francisco) as well the cost of the Muni ticket violations that have risen to new levels in the recent years. The SFMTA ( San Francisco Municipal Transit Authority) and the politicians in charge of the city of San Francisco are behind this discriminatory atrocity and have sanctioned an environment where collecting money for the city through extremely aggressive predatory enforcement is now the norm .
Parking meter cost have gone up and up, parking tickets and moving violations are the highest they have ever been. If you are unlucky enough to get your car towed, they can and will charge you up to $400 (depending on the size of your car) just for the tow and that is not including the ticket that you get on top of that. I find this type of underhanded taxing disgusting. Tickets and traffic enforcement are not meant to create revenue, they are meant to create safety and order for everyone. Currently this power is being misused and abused and the people who are feeling it the most are those of us that are lower income. If ever there was a case for the rise up of the 99% this is it. To the 1%, shelling out $500 to $1000 or more to get your car out of trouble is nothing. To those of us who are of lower income, $1000 can be more then a year's worth of working hard to save that money, and in an instant it is gone. It is devastating for those of us who are not millionaires or billionaires. Some people might then say, "well just don't get any tickets", which would be a good solution but in the City of San Francisco Meter Maids and Muni enforcers have become predatory. The reason: The practice of giving out citations is no longer about safety and traffic management, it has become about revenue for the city. I challenge anyone to come to this city, live here for a year and not get a single ticket in that year. I believe the majority of people who took that challenge would not come even close to being able to successfully complete it.
This current system is oppressive, unacceptable and economically discriminatory. WE PAY TAXES ALREADY FOR THE ROADS WE DRIVE ON, (which are among the worst in the country), THE MUNI TO RUN, FOR THE METER MAIDS AND MUNI WORKERS SALARIES, FOR THE METERS TO BE MAINTAINED, MADE, AND INSTALLED, AND THEN WE ARE BEING MURDEROUSLY OVERCHARGED AND CRIMINALIZED FOR VIOLATIONS, THAT AS OCCASIONALLY IMPERFECT HUMANS WE ARE GOING TO SOMETIMES MAKE. OPPRESSIVE ECONOMICS NEEDS TO END NOW! HELP THE "OCCUPY MY STREET" MOVEMENT BY SIGNING THIS PETITION AND LET OUR POLITICAL FIGURES KNOW THAT WE HAVE NOTICED AND ARE NOT GOING TO STAND FOR THIS ANY LONGER!
