The public schools in Orange County are not understanding that substitutes are not robots. They are real human beings who want to connect with their students and make an impact, just like any regular teacher would. Most students disrespect substitutes and mess around on days when their actual teacher is not there. But students respect someone or a substitute for that matter who is unapologetically themself and does not hold back. A substitute who is going to come in and go by the book without at least making a memorable impression, will likely lead to an unproductive day. Students are not motivated by strict rules and complete structure. Of course there needs to be rules and substitutes need to follow them, but singing one song for your class should not lead to termination. A majority of students and families are not happy with your schools’ decision and this is why this petition is started. Please consider the following signatures as the voices you need to listen to in your surrounding community.
