This bipartisan petition expresses the urgency of and support for a nationally televised Obama/Romney Presidential Budget Forum with each candidate presenting their proposed Federal Budget.
The real, long term problem is the economy; the central issue in this Presidential Election. Both candidates address bits and pieces of the economy and Federal Budget depending on the particular audience. Regardless of your political affiliation, it is imperative that the American Voter be told what each candidate proposes as a long term plan for the Federal Budget. Both candidates respond specifically to the (Simpson/Bowles) National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform covering 5 areas: * social security *tax reform *Medicaid/Medicare * discretionary spending cuts and * defense spending.
Each candidate will focus only on a clear presentation of the Federal Budget rather than a dialogue/debate format. We need to know what each candidate will put on the table as their budget policy if elected into office; to spell out his proposed spending cuts and/or tax increases; the components which lead to a percentage ratio of debt to GDP; and use visual aids so viewers’ understand the numbers tossed back and forth. Each presentation addresses the pros and cons of each component and how components, such as health care won't increase faster in cost than GDP.
The(Simpson/Bowles) National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform was supported by a bipartisan majority on the President’s commission and a bipartisan group of House members, and encouraged by a bipartisan group of 64 in the Senate.
“The rationale is clear: The problem is too big to be solved with ideological purity. There is no point paying the political price of compromise to achieve something short of a real solution. A lot of people didn’t get the message.” Democratic Senator Conrad, N.D.
“I was disappointed that the Bowles-Simpson Report was not pursued…I hope we get at that…we need a broad based tax reform…the tax code has become riddled with inefficiencies and tax favors…” (Republican) Robert Zoellick, President of the World Bank
“Unless someone like you…cares a whole awful lot…nothing’s going to get better, it’s not,” Dr. Seuss
