All Year 11 children had their school year cut very short this year. Exams they had worked so hard to get through in May/June cancelled. Their friends and teachers, along with all normal aspects of a 15/16 year olds academic life removed abruptly due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Many children attended school for the last time without even knowing it was their last day when they walked out of the building. This is because some may have been off sick with symptoms of Coronavirus or another illness, or some parents may have been too frightened to allow their child to attend school. In this instance, the parental knowledge that they were denying their child the chance to say goodbye speaks volumes about the level of threat they felt this virus presented. Whilst we all face the stresses of these unprecedented times right now, surely we can tell our children that when this is all over, they can finish their school year with some fun alongside their fellow students. The teachers who have poured their energy into supporting the success of their pupils would surely also love to say goodbye and wish them well for the future. Let's give the children something to look forward to when all this is over....one last evening with their school friends and teachers and all dressed up. Give Class of 2020 the opportunity to keep a happy memory, some photographs and have a positive closure to the year they all imagined would be so different. 

This issue is not exclusive to Oasis Academy Wintringham. I understand that many schools do not have plans to rearrange their year 11 proms. Whilst it is understandable that a definite date is difficult to secure at present, wouldn't it be lovely for all of Class of 2020 to experience this, even if it is a winter prom, which would be equally as special.
