Oakland Unified School District Governing Board: Sign a fair contract now!
Oakland students deserve…
- Quality teachers who are committed to their community schools
- More counselors to guide them in preparing for college or career
- Additional qualified special educators to ensure that their lawful needs for a free, public education are met.
Today Oakland has the highest teacher turnover rate (more than 70% in the last five years) of any District in Alameda County, too few counselors to serve students’ academic and emotional needs, and the highest level of non-compliance with special education laws in the state.
California’s voters generously approved Proposition 30, which will ensure that OUSD will receive at least a 5.8% increase in funding next year. While sitting on $33 million dollars in reserves, OUSD has only offered a 1.5% raise to Oakland teachers and refused to agree to limits on special education caseloads.
We need you to send OUSD’s elected officials a message: Start giving Oakland students the schools they deserve by making a fair contract offer to Oakland’s educators.
