As someone who frequently uses a bike to visit this area, the protected bike lanes are a well-intentioned idea, but they manage to make me feel less safe. It's harder to see (and be seen!) by cars, and now there's a risk of being doored on the right side of a vehicle, where passengers don't typically look before opening. Not to mention cars that just park in the protected lane, completely blocking it.
Props to the city for considering cyclists as part of the transportation plan, but now let's do it the right way.
