Replace T2 Lane between The Warehouse Way & College Road with Left Turn & Bus lane only

The T2 lane between The Warehouse Way & College Road is ineffective. When Policed it creates dangerous manoeuvres which can incite road rage as drivers try to negotiate a late lane change (just after T2 section) from the right lane to left nearer the traffic lights.

Maximum efficiency of traffic flow has been seen only when policing is not in place, allowing traffic to naturally flow without delay or implications on safety.

A more effective solution is to replace the current T2 lane with a "Left Turn/Bus Lane" only which would remain constant at all times.

Policing of the Left lane being used by straight through traffic could continue if desired on the north side of the lights to ensure correct use during peak times.

In 2010 it was agreed the T2 was too close to the traffic lights to allow people to turn left so the lane was shortened. This is still the case today as traffic volumes are too large no matter how far back the T2 from the College Street lights.

See the attached suggested layout which has been discussed by several of the affected road users within Akoranga Business Park.

  • If you have been fined by trying to safely join left turning traffic...
  • If you have been engaged in road rage by annoyed road users because you hold up traffic while avoiding a fine...
  • If you often see an empty T2 lane but stay in the right lane to avoid a fine, further holding up northbound traffic...
  • If you get stuck in lengthy traffic delays in The Warehouse Way when policing occurs...
  • If you've been stuck at a Left Turn Arrow Light behind Straight Ahead Traffic on a Red Light stopped in the left lane...
  • If you want maximum efficiency and safety on our roads...
