70km Speed Limit SH1 Waitati
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
The Blueskin General Store, the turnoff to Waitati from SH1, a bus stop and a parking lot are on/near a corner where the current speed limit is 100km per hour (recommended corner speed of 75km one way and 65km the other). As a pedestrian crossing the road one has to run in order to do so safely. It is impossible to see cars coming from the south until they are too close and difficult to see them coming from the north - particularly if a truck is parked in the parking lot or in the shoulder. It is scary! Especially if one is pushing a pram, has dogs in tow or is in any way unable to run (think wheelchair, crutches, elderly shuffle etc). To pull in to or out of the store or the car park opposite is equally harrowing. Additionally, when turning into Waitati (heading north) people going south frequently cross the double yellow lines - and always seem to be going well above the recommended speed limit for the corner. It is a terrible accident waiting to happen!! There are all too often road accidents along the stretch from Waitati to Waikouaiti - it is time to make it a safer stretch!
We are asking that the New Zealand Transport Association lower the speed limit along this section of SH1 to 70km per hour. A few new signs could save lives! And will at least make it less scary!
Thanks in advance :)
