It just shouldnt be there. Can understand the desire to do it but just imagine if it was up Uluru aka ayers rock in central australia. Te mata oeak is perhaps not as big in landform but just big in cultural signicance.
Te Mata a Rongokako should be left unmarked, it is tapu it is a significant maunga for Māori. People should not be allowed to deface any natural resources just to satisfy their own recreational pleasure. People need to be respectful of Māori values and principles instead of showing blatant disregard.
The track is an eye sore on a beautiful maunga and iconic landmark of the Hawkes Bay. Also the parking for the walkers and path to the trek gate is not safe. The whole idea was not well thought out and consultation with the iwi. Get it right!
This is the most ugliest walking track in Aotearoa. Please Hastings District Council rescind your wrong that you approved regarding this track. Our tupuna are scared, being trampled on, and our site of significance totally destroyed.Enuf is Enuf.
