Rick Martin started this petition to NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The NZ Government is planning to repatriate UK and German nationals stuck in NZ due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Yet they are firm on the fact that they can do nothing for Kiwis' who are stuck in foreign countries.

If Air NZ is going to be asked to use its aircraft to repatriate foreigners then why can the same aircraft not bring our people home. It requires government to government discussion to be able to allow flights to land in countries who have closed their borders. The risk of spreading Covid-19 can be eliminated by having aircraft manned by two flight crews so that refuelling is the only requirement when the aircraft is on the ground in the pick up country.

There are tens of thousands of fellow New Zealanders unable to get home. Talking to Kiwis stuck in hotel rooms in far away countries is heart rendering especially when our own government via the local Embassies/ High Commissions are doing nothing to reach out to them and offer assistance.

As one of a group of Kiwis on tour in India last month we were fortunate to be able to get on one of the last flights to leave Delhi on March 22. The four of us will not easily get over the feeling of despair as four of our group were forced to remain in Delhi due to their flights being cancelled.  (As featured on Seven Sharp on Monday evening). It now appears that they may be stuck in Delhi, along with hundreds of other Kiwis, until the middle of May.

Unless the government steps in to help.

We are told to be kind to each other and care for everyone. So it is now time for the PM and Deputy PM to walk the talk and act.

Come on New Zealand. Let our leaders know that we all care about every Kiwi, at home and away. They need to know the damage they are doing to the fabric of our society by treating those of us not at home as outcastes.

"They are us!"
