In New Zealand, Abortion has become an issue that has stirred controversy in its quest to becoming legalised. Although the Abortion Legislation Act 2020 (which permits termination of pregnancy up to 20 weeks, and after 20 weeks requires 2 doctors to approve the abortion) passed in March 2020, protestors are allowed to stand outside of clinics and hospital, shaming and blaming women. The factors and circumstances in relevance to why a woman would want to get an abortion vary from sexual assault victims, mental instability, age, religion, and many more.

Though the passed Bill grants women the right to get an abortion, it also puts the lives of those women at risk. We think protesting outside of abortion clinics could become a form of hate speech and create further unnecessary guilt for women who have abortions.

Please sign this petition to ban protestors from protesting outside of clinics and hospitals that should be safe places for women to recover. Creating a safe zone would eliminate consequences for women and prioritise their safety over other peoples freedom of speech. It is wrong and unfair for 'pro-lifers' to call themselves 'pro-life' when they don't consider their impact on women's life.
