Mitchell Jones started this petition to NYU Tisch School of the Arts

Here at New York University, specifically at Tisch School of the Arts, there seems to be a pattern of professors specifically at NYU Tisch Drama across all studios, seem to be leveraging student's previous trauma as a teaching lesson to further the student's craft.

There is a common pattern across NYU Drama that studio professors ask students to bring in personal stories when working on scenes that can involve students sharing stories of personal trauma that they may be uncomfortable, but feel as though they do not have the option to advocate for themself and say no. However, if students are comfortable in the moment, sharing these personal stories. It may "trigger" the student in the future unexpectedly.

As it stands now, there is no training for the NYU Tisch Drama faculty on what it means to bring traumatic experiences into the classroom. Consequently, the majority of the NYU Tisch Drama faculty don't have the expertise to de-escalate a traumatic invoking experience or know the damaging neurological and emotional effects that are bringing traumatic events haphazardly into one's teaching without allowing the student to heal.

So this petition is asking for the Dean of Tisch School of the Arts, Allyson Green, and Drama Chair Ruben Polendo to implement mandatory trauma sensitivity training to all NYU Tisch Drama Faculty.
