Daniel Straus is a member of the Executive Committee of NYU Law School’s Board of Trustees. He endows the Straus Institute for the Advanced Study of Law and Justice at the Law School with over $1 million in annual gifts. But the National Labor Relations Board has deemed his actions against nursing home workers in Connecticut and New Jersey unlawful. In Connecticut, his company unilaterally imposed a contract slashing benefits for workers, violating laws requiring companies to bargain in good faith. When students at NYU organized a demonstration in solidarity with these workers, Straus's company sent anti-union thugs to intimidate them.
We, the undersigned, are outraged that someone who violates workers' rights and is responsible for sending thugs to campus to intimidate students sits on the Executive Committee of the NYU Law School. We call on the Board of Trustees of the Law School to remove Straus, and we call on Straus to start respecting workers' rights and cease his intimidating tactics.
